Insights in the Ninth Commandment

“Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.” Exodus 20:16

The ninth commandment emphasizes the value of our neighbor’s good name. We are not to seek to build our own name at the expense of our neighbors. It forbids lying to or about others, giving false testimony or accusations, slander, gossip, or any other form of conversation or action that would seek to deface or destroy their reputation.

“But now you must rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips. Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices”
(Colossians 3:8-9). -NIV
